The Unique Timeline of Fate
ʙʏ ᴘᴏsɪᴛɪᴠᴇʟʏ ʜᴏʟʟᴀɴᴅ
•SNEAK PEAK•
summary: The letter sending you back to Top Gun was a life changing one... and although you didn't know it at the time, the second you accepted to be apart of a mission that you could very well not return home from, you also made it possible for the fate you hoped for as a child to become a reality...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Ms Y/L/N,
We are pleased to inform you that you have been selected for a special attachment designed only for the elite. So it be you accept this invitation, please note the following.
Training will begin 05/12/2021, and will take place in hanger 3B in the Top Gun Base in California....
The letter kept going to explain the details of the mission further, but you stopped reading. Overwhelmed was an understatement to put what you were feeling simply. You sat back further into the chair you were currently sprawled across and took a long moment to simply just process the information you had just received...
You were going back to Top Gun.
You see, life growing up was very hard for young y/n. Kids would constantly tease her that she didn't have a Dad, even though her whole entire class in the second grade did.
As you got older, you realized most kids you met that didn't have a present father in their lives had no clue who their absent parent was, but that wasn't the case for you.
Your mother believed that you had the right to know who your father was, and so she told you as much about him as she could, and once you learned his name you were doing all the Google searching possible in an instant.
Here's what the internet knew about him.
Pete Mitchell
Callsign "Maverick"
Top Gun Graduate 1984
There was a lot more including all the awards he had won throughout his lifetime in the Navy, but that was all that mattered to you.
It was then that 13 year old y/n made the decision that she'd join the Navy as soon as she had the chance to. Back then, you'd thought that being in the same armed force as your father that you had never met would mean fate would push the two of you together and make you guys have an instant relationship.
And even once you were old enough to realize that those chances were very slim, you still decided to go to the Naval Academy, despite your mothers best wishes.
And here you are, 12 years into your career, having still never met your father in person. Although, you've heard more stories about him through the Navy than you could've ever hoped for.
There was a point when you believed that meeting your father was not in the cards for your future, and that he was not a part of your life for a reason.
But little did anyone except only the universe know, this father-daughter pair was about to go through hell and back together.
Y/N had seen a lot of smiles in her life. Working as a counselor, they ranged, but the one Sarah gave her now was absolutely terrifying. She knew, in this moment, she would never be able to live it down. “Uh…Sarah? What are you doing here?”
The grin never wavered. Sarah intertwined her fingers, resting her chin on top of her hands. “Oh, just working. What about you, Miss Y/L/N?”
If Y/N could crawl into a hole, she would. This wasn’t exactly a setting she would have ever expected to cross with one of her clients. “I – “ Before she could stutter out an answer, a rhyme or reason for being in a tattoo parlor with her tipsy friends, someone came from the back.
She swallowed the lump in her throat, surprised to see someone that looked like that working at a tattoo shop. He looked like he should have been a model. His blonde hair was swept back and those bright blue eyes surveyed the room as if he owned the place.
And maybe he did.
“Hi. I take it you ladies are the ones Bucky told me about?”
“That’s right,” Y/N heard Wanda say, walking past her and to the counter he now stood behind. “All five of us wanted to get something.”
Y/N was hardly paying attention to the conversation. She was far more focused on trying to figure out why this guy looked so familiar. He held out a hand to Wanda. She promptly shook it, her grip lingering a little too long before he shook hands with Hope, Carol, and Val as well. They introduced their names before he looked at Y/N.
She noticed the dark circles under his eyes, but refused to let herself think too much about the cause of them. Instead, she took his hand. “I’m Y/N.”
“Steve Rogers. This is my place.”
Rogers. Y/N looked at Sarah. She was still watching, that amusement never wavering from her eyes. He was her – Oh boy.
As Steve took their IDs and handed them to Sarah, he explained how they would most likely have to divvy the women up between himself and Bucky. It would keep them from spending too much time here at least. Y/N also had a feeling it was something to do with getting Sarah home at a reasonable hour, but there was no way she could be sure. For all she knew, Sarah had a bed here that she slept in.
Oh, dear god, that was a horrible thought. Why would she put that idea in her head?
“Hey.” Y/N blinked, looking at the hand touching her arm. Hope was watching her curiously, clearly concerned but not willing to voice it. “You okay? You’re not already regretting this, are you?”
“No, of course not. It’s…” Y/N glanced at Sarah. Her back was to them, copying their IDs to the paper each woman would need to sign. “Complicated.” She remembered all the sessions she had with the young girl. How she was struggling. Was it because she was spending nights like this? How much of Sarah’s life was being kept out of their sessions? And what sort of stability did she really have?
“You comin’?”
Y/N jerked, looking towards the back. Steve was waiting there, and her friends were already putting down their pens. Sheepishly, she scribbled her signature on the paper. It wasn’t her first tattoo. She knew the drill. Sarah took the papers, straitening and filing them away as Steve led them down the hall. “Have fun,” she called just as Typhanie came out of the bathroom.
Seeing the smirk and glimmer in her girlfriend’s eyes, Typhanie frowned. “What? What’d I miss?”
--
“Hey, Buck!’ Steve’s fist collided with the doorframe, making the brunette inside jump a foot in the air. He grinned before jerking a thumb over his shoulder. “Got some customers for you if you’re interested.”
Bucky rolled his eyes, rising to his feet as Carol and Val stepped in. “Hi.” He was sheepish, obviously feeling bad for not noticing they were ready for him. “Um…come on in and we’ll talk about what you guys are lookin’ for.”
Across the hall was Steve’s room. He opened the door, propping it against the wall. “There’s two chairs there. If you want to wait and watch, you can. If not, you’re more than welcome to hang out up front and us come and get you.”
There was an awkwardness in the air. None of them really knew who wanted to go first and it seemed none were interested in making the first move. Y/N chuckled and said, “I’ll go first. You two want to wait up front?”
“Yeah! I saw the records and wanted to check those out, if you don’t mind,” Wanda said, already hightailing it out of the room.
--
Hope was quick to follow her. It had nothing to do with her wanting to be out of the room, Y/N knew that. It had everything to do with the fact that Wanda was the wild card of the group. Leaving her alone with two teenagers up front… No, Y/N definitely appreciated Hope going with her.
“Uh…guess that settles that.”
Y/N squeaked. She turned back to Steve, unable to fathom how she had forgotten that he had been in the room with her. “Sorry, it’s been a weird night.”
Steve chuckled and shook his head. “Don’t have to tell me twice. I’ve heard some weird stories.” He gestured to the table as he sat on his stool, rolling to her side. “So – is this a group tattoo? Or each is getting their own thing?”
“A bit of both actually,” she explained, voice a little softer than before. “We’re all getting the semi-colon symbol.”
Steve had been reaching for his sketch book, faltering when he heard that. A lot of people got that symbol. He knew the reason behind it. Sparing a glance at her, Steve understood why she was so quiet. Instead of grabbing his sketchbook, he rolled the stool so he sat in front of her. On the table, she easily towered over him, but that was normal. Gnawing at the corner of his lip, Steve wasn’t sure what to say so he simply started with, “Hey.”
She looked up, meeting those pretty baby blues of his as he offered a small smile. “Hi.”
“You don’t have to go into detail if you don’t want, okay? This is about your comfort.” He noticed the way her shoulders dropped and smiled. There. That was what he wanted to see. “Do you just want the black ink or something else?”
Y/N shrugged. “I don’t know. I figured the black ink was sort of party of it.”
Steve grabbed his sketch book. “It doesn’t have to be.” He took one of the pencils off the table and flipped to a spare page, tracing quick, rough strokes.
Y/N was amazed by the way he so easily moved the pencil, as if he knew exactly what stroke needed to go where. Her brain didn’t work like that. She wasn’t that creative when it came to artistic things. She tucked her hair behind her ear, sparing a small glance his way. Steve was concentrating, putting as much focus into this as if he were creating something completely extraordinary instead of a little tattoo. His brow was furrowed, pinched in the middle, and his teeth were worrying his lip.
He really wanted to make this right.
“We could do something like this.”
Y/N straightened, making herself focus on the paper as he turned it her way. She couldn’t stop herself from smiling when she saw the design. It was simple. Needing only a little bit of color. And it wasn’t so big or over the top that she couldn’t hide it for her job.
“I love it.” She turned back to him. The smile on her face made Steve proud of the creation even though it wasn’t anything fancy. It meant something to her. And that made him happy for her.
She shrugged off her jacket, setting it aside and turning her body back towards him. It wasn’t Steve’s first time seeing scars, nor would it be his last, but seeing those faint, risen lines on the inside of her wrist...it hurt. He could never imagine what had happened in her life to cause such a reaction, but he wanted to help her move forward now.
It was the least he could do.
“We’ll start with the black and then go to the watercolor,” he told her, spinning back towards his inks. He put a tray of them together, lining them up. “Sound good?”
“Uh…yeah.”
Steve chuckled. “Not having doubts, are you?”
Y/N shook her head. No, there were no doubts. She absolutely wanted this. “Not doubts,” she told him as he tested the pressure on the tattoo-gun. Setting it down, Steve turned back to her and started cleaning her wrist. “It’s just…I feel like I should make sure you’re properly informed.”
He laughed, running the razor over her skin and shaving away any little baby hairs that would get in the way. “Shouldn’t I be saying that to you?”
“Well, yeah,” Y/N admitted, knowing she was probably being silly. Still, honesty was important to Y/N. It always had been. “But I still think you should know.”
Steve raised a brow, finally meeting her gaze. “What?”
“I’m…” Y/N sighed, reminding herself that it wasn’t that big of a deal. It shouldn’t be, right? Glancing down at the sketch between them, she admitted, “I’m your daughter’s counselor.”
The night ended fast, and before Natasha knew it, she was following Benjamin Bradshaw to his house to spend New Year's Eve and then New Year's Day with the Bradshaw family. She just kept thinking about the days she spent with Ben, and that brought a smile to her face. She would never admit it out loud she was in love, but boy, was she in love. Natasha just kept thinking about her future and how she couldn't see it without Ben in it.
She only came out of her thoughts when Ben pulled into his driveway and she pulled in right after. She could get used to this, coming home to him and just being with him sounded heavenly. Natasha sat there for a few minutes until a knock on her window brought her out of her daydream. She looked over and saw that it was Ben and she smiled. She opened the door and got out. "Did I lose you?" He asked with a chuckle and she shook her head.
"No. I was just thinking." She said and he smirked.
"About what?" He asked
"You, us. How I could get very used to this." She said and he smiled and leaned down and pecked her lips.
"Good because I could get used to it too." He said "Come on. Let's get inside." He said and she smiled and nodded. She was going to get her bags but Ben beat her to it. She's never had anyone do that for her before. She followed him into his house and was in awe at how decorative it was and clean. Ben had a bunch of stuff from his military career around the place and tons of pictures, mostly of the family. The door was closed behind her and then was walking further into the house. It smelled just like Ben. It had a cinnamon apple smell and it was intoxicating to Natasha. She never smelt anything more sweeter than him. "Help yourself to anything. I'm gonna put these in the spare room." He said and she nodded and then he disappeared upstairs.
It was a very cute house. It suited Ben just perfectly. She walked into the kitchen and opened the fridge and found it well stocked with food and beer. She smiled and grabbed two beers and opened them. She took a drink out of one and when Ben joined her in the kitchen she gave the other to him. "I love this house." She said and smiled and chuckled.
"I do too but there is a house that I've been looking at in San Diego and it's just perfect. It has all hardwood floors. The front of the house is pretty much rock instead of brick and it just feels homey." He said and she nodded.
"I've seen that house. It's so beautiful." She said and he nodded.
"It has a big backyard. Big enough if a pool was put in then there would still be plenty of yard." He said "It's a little further away from people but you still have neighbors but they're not gonna be suffocating you like the ones here." He added. They continued talking about houses and life when all of a sudden Ben stood up "Are you hungry? I know I am." He said and the laughed.
"I could go for some food." She said and he smiled and disappeared into the kitchen. She got up and looked around the living room noticing all the pictures. She stopped at one in particular. It was one of him, Bradley, Goose, Carole, and Maverick. Maverick was carrying Bradley and Ben was tucked into Goose's side, his arm was around his back and Goose's arm that wasn't around Carole was thrown over his shoulder. She didn't know how long she was looking at it until Ben's voice came through.
"That was when Mom, Bradley, and I went and saw Dad and Uncle Maverick when they were at Top Gun." Ben said coming to stand beside her.
"What about this one?" She asks pointing to a picture where Ben was perched on Goose's shoulders. Their backs were turned and Ben was pointing up in the sky. He must’ve been around 3.
"That's when I first saw a jet. That's when I fell in love with them and they practically became my life." Ben said and Natasha smiled. They continued going through pictures and he would explain what was happening just like it was yesterday. There were very few pictures of Maverick and she wondered why.
They both ended up on the couch watching whatever bad-acting movie was on TV. Both of them would just burst out laughing or comment on how that wouldn't happen, especially if it was a Navy movie. It was getting pretty late and they had both had several drinks and food upon food.
Natasha found her eyes slipping closed. She tried to keep them open she really did but the warmth from Ben and the cinnamon apple smell was soothing her to sleep. Before she knew it her eyes were shut and she felt Ben pull her closer into him.
When Ben felt Natasha's breathing even out he looked down and saw she was fast asleep. He smiled and kissed her head.
Were they falling fast? Yes.
Too fast? Possibly.
Did they care? Not in the least bit.
After a few minutes, he decided it was time for bed. He gently picked her up and carried her to the guest bedroom where he lay her down gently and pulled the covers over her and then left and got into his bed. He laid there smiling and found himself drifting off into a peaceful sleep.
December 26, 2010- December 30, 2010
The days leading up to New's Eve were moving fast but each day just meant another day for Natasha and Ben to be together. Somedays they were with Bradley and Leah but most days it was just him and her, and they loved it.
Ben and Natasha were just perfect for each other and everybody could see it. They just fit in with each other and talked with each other like they had known each other for years, even though they had just met each other days before.
On December 30th, all four of them were out and about walking the city and the beach. When a soccer ball rolled their way and a few kids ran up to them. "We're sorry!" A little boy said and Ben smiled and shook his head.
"You guys want another player?" He asked and the kids looked at each other and nodded excitedly. Ben turned to him as if questioning if they wanted in but they shook their head and Ben was on his way. This gave the other three time to sit down and somewhere and talk.
"He's great with kids." Natasha said and Bradley and Leah chuckled bur nodded.
"I think it helps that he's a kid at heart. It never left him. He really wants at least one of his own." Leah told her and Bradley agreed. They continued to watch Ben and then the kids play. After awhile the kids were called away and Ben was making his way back to the group.
"Did you have fun?" Bradley asked and Ben rolled his eyes but a smirk appeared on his face.
"Yes, I do. I wish you 3 could've joined. It would've been so fun. I look forward to playing with my kid." He said and Natasha smiled. They sat on the beach for a while until it got dark. They went back to Ben's house where he started getting supper ready.
"Where did you learn to cook?" Natasha asked and he smiled.
"Mom taught me. She tried to teach Bradley but it was a total failure." He said and Bradley shoved him as he rolled his eyes.
"I can cook." Bradley defended
"I didn't say you couldn't cook. I said it was a disaster teaching you." Ben shot back.
"Boys, bicker later. Nat and I are starving." Leah said
"Hold your jets. Dinner will be ready in 10." Ben said. Nat was silent and smiling just sitting back and listening to the bickering but it was all in fun.
10 minutes flew by. Talking about anything and everything was had and the boys taking jabs at each other made it fun. Bradley and Ben had a great relationship with each other. After all, Ben practically ended up raising Bradley when their dad passed and all of them were grieving he was the oldest male so he thought he had to take care of them both. Then their mom got sick. Sure they had Maverick but it had been Ben, Bradley, and Carole for so long that it was just normal.
The rest of the night went on with laughter and then Bradley and Leah were leaving them alone for the night. During their time alone plans were made and numbers were exchanged. Ben didn't want Nat to leave and she didn't want to leave either.
---------------------------------------------------
December 31, 2010
The next morning Ben was up early getting in a morning workout and a morning run then he was making breakfast for the 4 of them. Bradley and Leah would be coming over in a little bit to have breakfast and then hang out for the rest of the day.
Ben didn't have to wait long to be joined in the kitchen by Natasha. "Good morning." Ben said in a voice that made Nat swoon and a blush come to her cheeks.
"Good morning. How long have you been up?" She asked
"Not long. Long enough to get a workout in and then start some breakfast. Bradley and Leah are coming over soon." He said as he turned the heat down on the stove and turned his head to look at her.
"What are the plans for today?" She asked coming to stand by Ben.
"We usually don't do much. We might throw on a game or the ball drop. Usually we would be working but the base actually let us have some time off since we just got back from a deployment." He said and she was shocked.
"You both were on a deployment?" Nat asked and he nodded.
"It wasn't long a quick in and out." He said and she nodded but she couldn't help but feel worried about him. It was silent until there was a knock and then a turning of the knob.
"Benjamin Bradshaw it is not safe to leave the door unlocked." Leah said and he rolled his eyes.
"It was locked. You used your key." He said and everyone laughed. He turned off the stove and got everything plated and was bringing it to the table.
"I figured we would throw on the ball drop here and just hang out." Bradley said and Ben nodded.
"That's what we do every time." He said with a laugh. Breakfast was finished quickly and then everything was cleaned up. Bradley turned on the ball drop. At some point everyone ended up outside on the porch enjoying the sun and time together.
The morning and afternoon turned into the evening and they were anxiously waiting for the ball to drop. Usually they would have other friends over but just spending time with family and a friend, that Leah and Bradley were trying to set up with the eldest Bradshaw, was nice.
It was nearing midnight and everyone was pretty deep into drinking and food was near by. Everything was perfect for the 4 of them and nothing could change that. "Hey the countdown is starting." Ben said and they turned to the TV. The clock was ticking down and they grabbed their glasses. When it hit 10 seconds left they started to countdown together. Ben pulled Nat in close.
"3"
Ben and Nat looked at each other stared into each others eyes.
"2"
While looking at each other Leah and Bradley were smirking. They knew they did the right thing.
"1! HAPPY NEW YEAR!" They shouted and everyone kissed each other. Ben and Nat kissed for what felt like their hundredth time but yet it still felt like their first kiss.
---------------------------------------------------
January 1, 2011
The kiss meant everything to Ben and Nat and they wouldn't change anything about it. Bradley and Leah smirked at the kissing unofficial couple. "We did good." Bradley whispered to his wife and she smirked.
"We sure did." She said and they fist bumped each other. Ben and Nat finally pulled away when air was needed and they looked at the other couple.
"Happy New Year!" Ben said and everyone laughed and then took a drink of their drink and continued the night on. Around 1 AM everyone called it quits and were heading to bed. Ben and Nat took to their rooms and Bradley and Leah took the other guest room. everyone slept peacefully that night.
In the morning everyone was a little bit hungover but nothing Ben's food couldn't fix. The morning was spent cleaning up what was left of last night and then in the afternoon they went out to eat spending what little time they had left with Natasha before she had to head back to Lemoore. She was dreading it.
When it was time for her to leave Leah helped her pack and then helped her bring her bags down. Bradley and Ben grabbed her bags and brought them out the car where they packed them in. Once it was packed Bradley and Leah said bye to her and then went inside giving the lover birds some time together. "I'm gonna miss you." Natasha said and Ben gave her a small smile.
"I'm gonna miss you too but you can always come and visit. I could also come and visit you." Ben said and that made Natasha smile and nodd.
"I would love that." She said
"Well I don't want to delay you. I need you to get on the road and home safely before it gets dark or at least somewhere to sleep." Ben said and that made her heart swell. He cared so much about her.
"I will." She said and leaned up and kissed him and he kissed her back.
"Text me when you stop and when you get home safely. You can call me if you get bored or tired." Ben said and she nodded.
"Will be sure to do that." She said and then he was leaning down to kiss her again and pulling away when air was needed. He opened the car door and let her get in. He made sure she was in and then closed the door. She pulled up her maps and turned the engine over. She backed out of the driveway and started her journey back home. He watched her leave and get out of view before walking back in smiling.
Bradley and Leah were quick to leave the window that they were peering out of and started to act like they were doing something. Ben rolled his eyes. "I know you guys were spying on us." He said and they came together looking at him not even trying to deny it.
"You're so in love." Bradley said and that made Ben's smile grow even further.
"Oh yeah I am." Ben said finally admitting it out loud. He wanted to marry her and start a family with her. He couldn't wait to see her again.
Tumblr media
Natasha and Ben have been engaged for about 6 months now. They had decided to wait until their little girl was born and a few months old before they even talked about getting married. Natasha had 3 months to go and then they would be holding their baby girl in their arms. Originally, they talked about not knowing the gender of their soon-to-be bundle of joy but they just couldn’t help themselves and broke down and found out the gender. There were some rough patches in the pregnancy but with both parents being in the military they handled with control and ease. They still hadn’t decided on a name but they did have several picked out and they knew for sure that they wanted her middle name to be Caroline a tribute to Ben and Bradley’s mother.
It was finally the weekend which meant that they had a whole two days by themselves. Natasha wasn’t allowed to fly but she still had to go in to work on paperwork and get things settled for when she and Ben went on maternity leave. Since Ben didn’t want her driving, he had taken it upon himself to drive both of them into work and back home. He doted on her the very second, she found out she was pregnant, he already doted on her but when he found out that she was carrying his unborn child he stepped it up big time, then again, his mother raised him to treat a woman right and he was also so much like his father.
Ben and Natahsa had just arrived home and he helped her get out of her Nissan Xterra and grabbed their stuff as they made their way into the house. When they got in, he was quick to bend down and take off her boots and then when he was done, he stayed on his eyes that was he was eye level with her stomach and held it in his hands and kissed it and smiled. Natasha smiled at the action he had done every day to the point it had become a ritual; he was really going to be a great father. “Alright, Jellybean. No, giving your mom a hard time tonight, we want her well rested.” He said and their baby moved into his hands and voice, Natasha had come to the conclusion that she was going to be daddy’s girl through and through. She brought her hands to his hair and ran them through enjoying the moment. “Now it’s time to get you and momma fed.” He said and gave one more kiss to her stomach and then stood up and kissed her. Then he got to work. “How about some homemade mac and cheese and some pork chops and yes there will be hot sauce.” Ben said and Natasha smiled, one thing about Ben was that he was an excellent cook and she was too but after becoming pregnant some smells got to her and it just made her exhausted and she left all the cooking duties to him.
“Sounds absolutely perfect.” She said and then she felt a kick and chuckled and he looked at her with a raised eyebrow “Eaglet agrees.” She said and he chuckled.
“Now go and sit down I’ll bring it to you when it is ready.” He said and she nodded and went and sat down in a kitchen chair that way she could still talk to him and be with him. She was just happy to take the pressure off of her feet. They talked about work and the plans about when their daughter was here and most importantly names. As they were talking her phone began to ring and she got it out of her pocket and looked at the caller id and it was Bradley and she answered it and put it on speaker.
“Hey you’re on speaker.” She said and she heard a chuckle.
“We’ll I guess I can’t tell you about the deep dark secrets of Ben then.” Bradley said and they all chuckled but Ben rolled his eyes but smile appeared on his face.
“Just remember that I know a lot of secrets about you little brother that Leah doesn’t know about.” He said tending the food as he heard a gasp from him.
“You wouldn’t dare.” Bradley said
“Try me.” Ben said and Natasha just smiled at their bickering.
“The reason I called was because we wanted to know what you were doing and how Birdie was doing.” He said, he had given the baby that name because Ben’s callsign was Eagle and so was Natasha’s was Phoenix, they were truly keeping the bird callsigns in the family.
“Well Ben is cooking some pork chops and homemade mac and cheese and Eaglet has been pretty much cooperative during the day until we got home and her daddy had talked to her.” Natasha said rubbing her belly and Ben looked at her watching her has he flipped the pork chops and could take his eyes off of them.
“Oh, what I wouldn’t do for some of his homemade mac and cheese.” Leah said “Wanna send us some?” She asked and everyone chuckled.
“You got it.” Ben said fully joking the food was pretty much done and now it was resting and cooling off. “What’s your plans for the weekend?” Ben asked them.
“Nothing huge. Maybe go down to the beach. You guys?” Bradley asked
“Nothing really, just gonna spend some time with each other and stay off my feet.” Natasha said
“Well, we don’t want to keep you guys. Have a good night and enjoy your homemade mac and cheese. We love you.” Leah said full of jealously.
“We will. Goodnight, guys. We love you too.” Ben said and Natasha hung up and Ben began plating her plate and then he brought it over with her glass of water and set it down in front of her.
“Why thank you fiancée.” She said and bent down and kissed her.
“You’re welcome my soon to be wife.” He said after breaking the kiss and then he went and got his food and glass of water, he would’ve gotten a beer or something sweetened but when Natasha had to quit drinking and was advised to not drink anything sugary, Ben had made it his choice to go along with her because he loved her so much and it was heathier in the long run.
Supper came and went and now the were finding themselves sitting on the couch snuggled together as they watched a comedy. Natasha was cuddled into Ben and he had his arms around her and one set on her stomach. Every now and then their baby would kick and they both smiled, she seemed so active while Ben was around.
Midnight rolled around and they finally decided to go to bed. Ben helped his pregnant fiancée up and helped her walk up the stairs making sure she wouldn’t fall backwards once all 3 of them were up safely he let up on his protectiveness. They got ready together and then they were slipping in to bed for a, hopefully, a goodnight’s sleep and not a lot of getting up to go pee.
Morning came around and thankfully she had only had to get up twice during the night and both times she had succeeded without waking Ben up, which was a surprise. Naturally they were early risers but they could get away with sleeping until 10 AM on most weekends. Ben had actually gotten up before Natasha and was getting breakfast ready. She was just about to get up when he came through with a tray with two plates of food, fruits, and drinks of their choice. “I figured we would have breakfast in bed and then go out and spend sometime out on the town.” Ben said and she smiled.
“That sounds perfect.” She said and he smiled then he walked into the room the rest of the way and sat down on the bed and put the tray in between them and then he turned on the TV. Nothing interesting was on so they switched to their DVR and watched some saved shows that they wanted to catch up on. Natasha started to get restless and this caught Ben’s attention almost immediately.
“What’s wrong?” He asked moving the try so he could have better access to her.
“Nothing worrisome. Your child is just playing soccer with my bladder and making me need to pee.” She said and he laughed.
“Always my child when she is doing something.” He chuckled but got up and began to help her get up and to their connected bathroom. When she was done, she flushed and washed her hands and then joined her fiancée back in bed.
“So, what do you have planned for us today?” She asked and he looked at her.
“Well, we need to run to the store and grab a few things and then I figured we would go baby shopping for a little bit more stuff.” Ben said and she smiled, he was always thinking of her and their baby always putting them first.
“That sounds perfect.” She said and then they started to get ready to leave. As always, they got ready together and then walked downstairs together. Ben helped his fiancée get her shoes on and then he got his shoes and they were heading out the door. They had decided to take Natasha’s vehicle since it had more space than his truck, he helped her get in and then he got in and opened the garage. Ben started the car and backed out of the garage and they were on their way and pulling out of the neighborhood.
The car ride was filled with laughter and music. Nothing could bother the happy couple. They had just come to a red light. He kept looking over at his perfect pregnant fiancée and she was glowing and he smiled. “Have I ever told you that you’re the most beautiful pregnant woman ever?” He asked and hung her head smirked.
“Every single day and I’ll never get tired of it.” She said and then he turned back to the road as he saw the light turn green in his peripheral view. Just as he was starting to go and cross an intersection and car from the left side came barreling at them and the only thing, he heard was a honk and metal crushing against metal and then the pain came. The other car was going at such a high speed that it pushed them to the other side of the road and flipped them and then they were crashing into a telephone pole. Both of them were knocked unconscious. Ben had slumped onto the wheel and on the horn making it blare and Natasha was knocked into the back of her seat.
The blaring horn is what woke him up and then the pain came to him everywhere. It took him a few minutes to figure out where he was but when he figured it out, he started to panic, he slowly lifted his head and he groaned in pain and then laid it on his headrest. He needed Nat so all of his attention turned to her and when he tried to move his body protested. “Nat?” He asked in a hoarse voice but got no answer “Baby.” He said and found some strength to move his hand and to her. But yet again no response.
Natahsa didn’t know where she was but she was waking up in the bar Carole, Bradley, and Ben they had visited when they went to see Goose and Maverick. She just looked around until she heard music and then Carole and Goose laughing together, she recognized them from the pictures that Bradley and Ben had laying around and on the wall. “Carole? Goose?” He asked and they turned to her and smiled and she got up from the table as Goose started to play the familiar tune of Great Balls of Fire. “What’s going on?” She asked and they looked at him sadly.
“You were in a car accident baby.” Carole said and stroked her cheek and she leaned into it; her touch felt so warm.
“Ben. Our child.” She said and began to panic.
“Ben is alright. He’s trying to wake you up and it is not your time so we don’t have long.” Goose said as he played the tune.
“Our baby?” She asked moving her hand to her stomach.
“They’re ok for right now. Help is on the way but you need to wake up.” Carole said
“I wish you both were down there with us. It would mean the world to us.” Natasha said and they smiled softly at her.
“We are with you. Just look around. We’re a whisper in the wind.” Goose said and that made Natasha smile.
“Gosh, I’ve always wanted to meet you but not like this.” She said and they chuckled.
“We’re always watching. We’re just happy we can meet you now and can’t wait for your wedding and seeing our grandchild be born. May I?” Carole asked and Natasha nodded and she put her hand on her stomach and then she felt a kick and she smiled that was the first time she felt her kick since the accident. Goose stood up as Carole took her hand off of Natasha’s stomach and pulled her into a hug.
“I’m so glad that Ben has met you. You both are perfect for each other.” Goose said and she melted into his touch it reminded her off Ben’s. All too soon the warmth was gone and then being replaced by Carole.
“Now, get back down there to our son, your fiancée, have this sweet little girl, get married, and help Leah keep our boys straight. Who knows where they would’ve ended up if they hadn’t found you both.” Carole said and released.
“Now don’t keep Ben waiting. He’s getting panicked. Tell the boys and Leah that we love them so much.” Goose said and she nodded.
“It was nice meeting you even if the circumstances weren’t great.” She said and they all laughed and then they said their goodbyes and she was waking up to Ben’s gentle touch.
“Baby?” Ben said and she slowly opened her eyes and looked over at him and he sighed in relief and then the pain hit her and she wanted to scream. She must’ve made a face because he was taking her hand “Hold my hand if you need to.” He said and she took it and squeezed it and he didn’t complain.
“I think something is wrong with the baby.” She said as more pain hit her.
“What do you mean?” He asked worrying.
“It hurts.” She said
“Don’t panic.” He started “Help is on the way.” He said and about that time sirens could be heard and then someone was rushing to them. The window was smashed so it was easy to talk to them “Help her first. She’s 6 months pregnant and in a lot of pain.” He said and they nodded.
“How are you feeling sir?” One paramedic asked.
“Everything hurts but I’ll be fine just help my pregnant fiancée, please.” He said
“We understand sir, we also need to help you. My partners are helping them.” They said and he slowly nodded. With controlled chaos they got them out and they were heading to the hospital. They were rolled into the hospital and they had taken him to an emergency room and then he saw her being wheeled passed him and he panicked.
“Where are they taking her?” He asked trying to get up but was pushed down by nurses and doctors and he let them due to the pain.
“Sir, just lay down.” A doctor said and he started to struggle.
“No, I need to know where my fiancée is being taken.” He said and tried to get up again and struggle and then they were pushing a sedative into his IV that was set in the ambulance and he was out like a light muttering that he needed to get to Natasha and their unborn baby.
Ben didn’t know how long he was out for but when he woke up Bradley and Leah were there and that confused him. “Bradley?” He slurred and that caught Bradley and Leah’s attention.
“Hey. How you feeling?” Leah asked putting a comforting hand on his hand.
“I’m fine. Nat and Jellybean?” He asked
“They’re in surgery.” Bradley asked and Ben’s heart monitor was starting to spike.
“What?” He asked starting to panic again and Bradley stood up and was lightly pushing Ben back as he tried to get up.
“They said they were both doing fine. There was a placenta tear but they’re fixing it. They’re both going strong. You’re going to be released once thy are out of surgery and when you woke up.” Bradley said and he nodded and settled down and the heart monitor settled, Bradley released him. He didn’t know Leah had left the room until she came back with a nurse and his doctor.
“Captain Bradshaw, you were lucky. You just had a dislocated shoulder and a cracked rib. We did have to sedate you after you starting resisting but we understand. Your wife and baby are doing well from the last I heard and should be out and in recovery in a few minutes. We’ll start your release process and get you to their room as soon as possible.” He said and Ben nodded.
“Thank you.” He said and the doctor nodded and then left as the nurse had him sign releasee forms and take the IV out.
“We stopped by the house and got some clothes for both of you.” Leah said holding a bag up and he smiled.
“Thank you, guys. Thank you for getting down here so quickly.” Ben said and slowly got up and Leah walked out of the room while Bradley helped his older brother then she got the all clear to come in.
“Anything for my older brother and future sister-in-law and niece.” Bradley said and Ben hugged him and then they released and Leah brought him in a hug.
“You guys scared us. We’re just glad you’re ok. We got the call and then were on the next flight out to here.” Leah said as she released him from the hug. About that time a nurse came in to grab them and take them to Natasha and their baby, Y/N. They followed in silence and when they got there and Ben saw his fiancée laying there, he almost broke down but when he heard his baby’s heartbeat he broke down and almost collapsed, he would’ve if Bradley wasn’t there to catch him. They walked in and Ben sat down on the chair not having his full strength back and Bradley hugged Leah. The doctor turned to them and smiled.
“Both of them are just fine. She was lucky to have only sprained her wrist and there was a placenta tear but we repaired it and everything was successful. She should be waking here in a few minutes since we didn’t want to use much anesthesia on her and the baby. The nurse and I will be back in a few to check on them both.” He said and they nodded and then left and that is when Leah and Bradley took their seats.
10 minutes later Natasha was waking up to bright lights and to her sleeping fiancée with his hand on her stomach and Bradley and Leah, who were awake. Leah was the first to notice “Hey.” She said softly and Nat smiled.
“How long has he been asleep?” Nat asked referring to Ben.
“Not too long. Want me to wake him?” Bradley asked and she shook her head.
“No, I will.” She said and they nodded and then she slowly turned to him and brought her right hand to his face and began to stroke it and started to speak softly. Once she saw him show his signs of waking up, she smiled and after a minute or two he woke up confused but then he saw her awake and was awake in an instant.
“Baby.” He said and got up and kissed her forehead his hand never leaving her stomach. “You’re ok.” He said and she nodded.
“We’re both ok.” She said and it was quiet for a minute. “I saw Goose and Carole while we were in the car.” She said and everyone was silent. “They told me to tell you that they love you and that I needed to come back to help Leah keep you boys straight.” She said and they chuckled.
“Yea that sounds like dad.” Ben said and Bradley nodded. The nurse and doctor walked in and checked on them and told them that they wanted to keep her in the hospital for a few days just to be sure and they agreed. Bradley and Leah would still be there they told work that they had a family emergency and had to be gone for a few weeks and they understood.
After a few days Nat got the all clear to go home and that is exactly what they did. It was really nice having Bradley and Leah there and they never got in the way and if Nat and Ben wanted space, they gave it to them. The doctor’s told them to take it easy and that is exactly what they were doing and why Bradley and Leah stayed.
Goose and Carole were looking down on their children and smiled. All of them were alive and healthy and their granddaughter was active but not too active sensing that her mother had something done and didn’t want to injury her further. “They’re going to be ok.” Carole said as she snuggled into Goose and he threw an arm around his wife. He kissed the side of her head and smiled.
“Yes, they are.” Goose said “Our granddaughter is going to be one spoiled little girl and is going to be one little fighter.” He said.
“Yes, she is. I can’t wait to watch her grow up.” Carole said
This accident just brought everyone together and they formed a stronger bond because of it. Ben, Natasha, and Y/N were safe. They were under careful watch of Bradley, Leah, Goose, and Carole. Nothing could bring them down they were a strong family and nothing was going to break them. They loved each other and were going to take care of each other no matter if their sick or just having a bad day. They're family and to them family sticks together no matter what unless you pull their Naval Academy papers then that’s a whole different story.
Natasha "Phoenix" Trace hated the holidays. Why? Because she doesn't have anybody to share them with. All of her friends weren't anywhere near her and she hadn't been stationed long at Lemoore, CA to make any new real friends, she knew Jake "Hangman" Seresin but they were nowhere near friends besides he was going home for the holidays. She didn't have any contact with her family due to a falling out. She had concluded that just sitting on her couch with a bunch of junk food and watching cheesy Hallmark, which always has the same plot and some of the same actors, would be just fine with her. It was just 4 days until Christmas and she had planned on having Christmas dinner at the base and then coming home and watching a movie and calling it good. She was just about to turn on a movie when her phone lit up beside her. She looked at it and saw the incoming call from Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw, she smiled. They had met in flight school and formed a very tight bond, she was there when he got engaged to his high school sweetheart Leah Sams, and at their wedding where Natasha was her bridesmaid, just 6 months later.
"Hey, Roos. What's up?" She asked as she answered the phone.
"Hey! You're on speaker." He said
"Hey, Nix!" Leah shouted out and smiled.
"Hey, Leah." She replied back.
"What are you doing for Christmas?" Bradley asked and she sighed.
"Had nothing planned, really. Probably just get dinner down on base and then come back and watch a movie." She said
"Not one of those cheesy, always the same plot, and same actors and actress Hallmark movie." Bradley said and in disgust and then she heard a faint 'Ow' from him meaning that Leah had probably hit him.
"Yes one of those." Natasha said
"Well, cancel those plans. Pack a bag. You're coming here." He said
"Bradley." She started
"No, he's serious. We talked about it and would love to have you around. Please." Leah pleaded and Natasha sighed.
"Fine. Since you said please." She said with a playful eye roll and a smirk.
"Perfect! We'll see you when you get here." Bradley said
"I'll let one of you know when I leave." She said with a chuckle.
"Good! See you soon!" Leah said and then they hung up. She sighed, now she already had a present for them both she was just planning on sending them by mail but this worked out better.
She sat on the couch for a few more minutes and looked at her phone it was only 12 PM on December 20th and if she left at 2 PM she could be in Oceana, VA at 7 AM on December 22nd. She nodded to herself liking those odds. She got up and packed quickly and looked at her watch is was nearing 1:30 PM. She grabbed her bags and the presents and made sure that everything was locked and squared away and now she was heading to her car ready to make the drive. She had been on a week leave due to having just gotten back from a deployment so it worked out perfectly.
December 22, 2010
The trip to Oceana, VA was really uneventful. Natasha did have to stop for the night, she thought about pushing through but decided against it. Now it was December 22nd there was hardly any traffic which she was grateful for. As she promised she let Bradley and Leah know when she was leaving, stopping, and going again. She was 10 minutes out when she decided to give them a call. She decided to call Leah, it rang once before she answered. Both Bradley and Leah were early risers but could easily sleep in if they wanted to.
"Hey, Nix!" Leah said and that made Natasha smile.
"Hey, Leah. I'm 10 minutes out." She told her.
"That's great! We can't wait until you get here! It's going to be so fun." Leah said and then she heard two male voices, one she recognized as Bradley and the second one that she wasn't familiar with and that sounded exactly like Bradley's.
"Hey, Leah. Who else is there?" Natasha asked as she stopped at a stoplight.
"Oh! Just Bradley's brother and my brother-in-law." Leah said like it was nothing and to her it was but not to Natasha.
"Bradley has a brother?" She asked and Leah chuckled.
"He sure does. You'll get to meet him while you're here. Now be safe and hurry up." Leah said and Natasha chuckled and then said goodbye to each other.
10 minutes later she was pulling into their driveway where she noticed both Leah's black Ford Explorer and Bradley's precious Bronco but there was a car she didn't recognize it was a deep olive green Chevy Colorado. It was sleek and looked like it was just washed. She parked next to it and got out while grabbing the presents not wanting them to sit out in the car for too long.
Natasha walked up to the door and rang the doorbell "I got it." She heard a male voice say and she didn't have to wait long until the door opened, she was expecting Bradley or Leah, not this handsome, 6'2", dirty blonde-haired man with true blue eyes with flecks of brown near his pupils. Her breath literally got caught in her throat and that never happened to her. They stared at each other him smiling and her just speechless.
"Benji! Let her in!" Bradley said pushing the other male out of the way, if anyone else had called him that he would've gotten on them but his brother was allowed to and Leah as well but she mostly calls him Ben. "I'm so glad you made it!" He said and hugged her and she smiled. She stepped into the beautifully decorated house.
"Well I wasn't going to say no to an open invitation." She said and then handed the presents to him "These are for you and Leah for Christmas." She said and that is when Leah came out.
"Ben, you're drooling." She said and shoved him and he smirked.
"How can I not? Especially with a beautiful woman in my presence." He said and that made Natasha blush and Bradley roll his eyes as he sent a wink towards her. Benjamin Bradshaw was their dad made over, besides his mustache, and was not afraid to speak his mind.
"Natasha this is my older brother by 2 years, Benjamin Bradshaw. Ben this is Natasha Trace my friend from flight school. Breakfast is almost ready. Come on." Bradley said and ushered them to the kitchen.
"Nice to meet you, Natasha. Such a beautiful name for such a beautiful woman. " Ben said to her with a smirk.
"Nice to meet you too, Ben." She said finally finding her voice again.
December 23, 2010
As everyone sat down for breakfast the talking began. "So, Natasha. Bradley has told me a lot about you especially when he said you were coming down." Ben said as he took a bite of a pancake Natasha was surprised.
"All good things I hope." She said still amazed how quickly she was falling in love with this man.
"I wouldn't tell him anything bad about you." Bradley said and Leah nodded.
"He told me that you're an aviator and stationed at Lemmore." Ben said and Natasha nodded.
"That's right. I don't know a lot of people there. It's nice though." She said as she took a drink of her coffee. "I didn't know Bradley had an older brother." She said when she put her cup down and Ben looked at Bradley.
"Rude." He said but there was no malice behind it. "Well, I'm 2 years older than him. I'm an aviator as well and stationed here at Naval Air Station Oceana." He said and then took another bite of his food.
"How is it working with your older brother?" She asked Bradley and he rolled his eyes and Leah smirked.
"Terrible. He likes to remind me every second that he outranks me and I'm older than him, even though we aren't in the same squad." Bradley said and then took a bite of his food as Ben smirked.
"Oh stop your whining. Just admit it's great. At least I don't fly with you." Ben said and Bradley nodded in agreement. "Matter in fact we have an air show that is going to be happing on Christmas Eve at 5 PM and I hope you all will be able to make it." Ben said.
"Don't worry we'll be there so you can show off." Bradley said and Ben leaned over and slightly nudged him in a brotherly fashion. The rest of breakfast went without a hitch and before they knew it they were cleaning up and going to sit in the living room where the Christmas tree was lit and decorated with presents underneath. "We have a lunch planned at one of our favorite places on the pier and tonight we're just going to hang out." Bradley added and everyone nodded.
Most of the morning was spent talking about random things and getting to know one another, more so of Natasha and Ben, that 12 PM snuck up on them out of nowhere and they were loading up in the Bronco and heading to the pier. They arrived quickly and found a good parking spot and they headed inside "How many?" The hostess asked.
"4 and can we have a table outside." Ben asked and the hostess nodded and Natasha swore she fell deeper in love each time Ben talked.
"Right this way." The hostess said and they followed her and she sat them. "Someone will be with you shortly." She said and walked away after they sat down but Ben held the chair out for Natasha and when she sat down he pushed her in and sat next to her.
"So, what is good here?" Natasha asked and Ben smiled.
"Their steak is to die for and so is their fried chicken." He said and she nodded the waitress came by and took their drink orders and then left again and soon came back with their drinks. They were ready to order and did so Natasha went with what Ben got trusting his judgment. Lunch went great and it was fun learning more about Ben. When lunch was done Bradley and Ben fought over who was paying and in the end Ben won and he smiled triumphally. They all headed back to Bradley and Leah's house.
The afternoon blended into the evening and everyone was few drinks in. "Ben you staying?" Bradley asked as the night was coming to and end, supper was just snacking since they had a big lunch.
"Yea, I've been drinking. No way am I going to drive back home." Ben said and Natasha looked him in awe.
"Alright. Well, Leah and I are heading to bed you both can do whatever you want but please don't doing here we have to eat and live here." Bradley said and Leah smacked him, Ben rolled his eyes and flipped him off and Natasha blushed.
"Goodnight guys." Leah said and begun to drag her husband away.
"Goodnight." Ben and Natasha said in unison. Once they knew they were out of sight and out of earshot they began talking.
"Do you want kids?" Natasha asked once they got into a knowing each other.
"Absolutely." Ben said almost instantly and that made her smile. "I want at least one and I have more than one I would love them all equally. You?" He asked.
"Yes, especially with the right one. What gender?" She asked and he had to think about it.
"Honestly either boy or girl again I would love them equally depending on their gender. But truthfully, I really want a girl." He said and she nodded. "What about you?" He asked looking at her lovingly. "Want another drink?" He asked.
"I'm pretty much the same way. Yes, I would love another drink." She said looking at him and they stared at each other for a few minutes and then they got up and headed into the kitchen reluctantly breaking eye contact. When they got to the kitchen he walked to the fridge and got out two beers and then joined Natasha who had been standing under the doorway. Ben jus happened to look up and found mistletoe hanging there and he chuckled. "What's so funny?" She asked smiling because his laugh was music to her ears.
"Look up." He said and she did and chuckled and then looked back at him. They then found themselves leaning in and then closing their eyes and then their lips met, sparks flew for both of them when they touched lips. He had sat his drink down and blindly on the counter and came to cup her face, she sat her drink down beside his and put her arms around his neck. They continued to kiss until air was needed and they pulled away. Their lips were swollen and they were flushed. "That was-" She began.
"Prefect." Ben added and she nodded. After a few hours and snuggling and stealing more kisses and finishing their drinks they had decided to go to bed.
December 24, 2010
The smell of breakfast cooking is what woke Leah and Bradley up. They groggily rolled out of bed and headed to the kitchen and as they got closer to the kitchen they heard laughter and two voices that were all to familiar. They quietly walked down the stairs and stood by them having a clear view of the kitchen and watched the scene before them. Ben and Natasha were standing side by side practically leaning into each other, he was at the stove and she was by him making the pancake batter and other food. Occasionally they would bump into each other and chuckle. Bradley took a quick glance at his wife who was smiling at the happy couple. "How long until you think they get together?" She asked quietly.
"Next month. They're already so head over hills for each other. I bet they kissed last night." He said and Leah shook her head.
"No, way." She said and Bradley smirked.
"Yes, way." He said and Leah shook her head.
"Ready to head in?" She asked and he nodded and they walked into the kitchen. "Good morning you two." She made their appearance known. Nat and Ben turned around and smiled.
"Good morning." Ben said and then turned around and finished putting the last of the pancakes on the plate and turning the stove off.
"Sleep well?" Bradley asked
"Yes." Ben and Natasha answered together which just made Bradley smirk. Ben grabbed the plate of pancakes and bacon, walked over to the table and set it in the center. Everyone grabbed their drinks and they began to eat.
"Remember the airshow is at 5 tonight. I'm gonna have to head out soon to go home get changed then head to base and get ready for it." Ben said and Natasha pulled a face that told them she was clearly upset about that but Ben didn't see it but Bradley and Leah did and they smirked and nudged each other. Breakfast was eaten with chatter and then Ben was getting ready to leave. Bradley and Leah had gone off somewhere leaving Ben and Natasha alone.
"Can't you stay just a little bit longer?" She asked and Ben smirked.
"I wish but we have to get some things ready and make sure everything is in tip-top shape for tonight. We also have to get a round of practice in." He said and she nodded in understanding. "What are your plans for New Year's?" He asked and she had to stop and think.
"Well, I was planning on leaving on the 27th and spending it alone." She said and Ben pulled a face as if saying he didn't like that.
"Why don't you just stay?" He asked and she shook her head.
"I would feel like I'm overstepping my welcome." She said looking into his blue eyes.
"Well, you could always stay with me." He said
"I don't want to intrude on you." She said unsure what to truly say because she was speechless but secretly loved it.
"Nonsense, I have two guest rooms. You wouldn't be intruding. Besides you have a few more days of leave and driving now during the holidays would be absolutely murder." He said and she nodded.
"Ok." She said and he leaned in and kissed her. What they didn't know was Bradley and Leah were watching with a smirk on their faces.
This was their plan all along of course having Natasha over was always going to be the plan because they hated the thought of someone being alone and Ben would've been over anyway. They both had been complaining about being alone for the rest of their lives and Bradley and Leah knew they would be perfect for each other so they set the plan in motion. What they didn't know was that it would've taken off so well and quickly but were absolutely glad about it.
The afternoon was spent just staying and enjoying each other's company in the house while Ben was gone. Natasha caught up with both of her best friends and overall just had a good time. Before they knew it 4:30 PM rolled around and they headed to the base. Now you may think it's silly for two Naval aviators to go see an air show but it was to support the oldest Bradshaw. Base was only 20 minutes away from each house so it was perfect. They got into the base with ease and found a spot. It was almost like a tailgate party, some people chose to sit or stand. Bradley turned his Bronco around so he could open the tailgate and they could sit on it or lay down on it. 5 PM exactly the announcer started speaking.
“Good evening, ladies and gentlemen! Welcome to the 6th annual Oceana Air Show! We have some exciting things for you to see! You'll be able to see all jets and planes up close and meet the pilots. Thank you for coming and let's begin!”
The crowd roared with excitement. Upbeat music started playing but no jets or planes had taken off. Most were sitting in front of the crowd so they could see them up close and personal. As they got to looking around at all the jets the name on the side of the one in front of them stuck out to them it had Cpt. Benjamin Bradshaw and then “Eagle” was written underneath. How did they get so lucky and be in front of his jet?
“In front of you are the jets that are gonna be flying today. In a few minutes we will have the pilots and WSOs come out so we can get this show up in the air. If we have time we'll have a simulation of a base attack. We will also have the pleasure of hearing what some of the pilots are saying while up in the air.” The announcer said.
“So tell me more about your brother.” Natasha said as she turned to Bradley as he looked at her.
“He practically raised me after our dad died. He grew up way faster than he should've, even though he hides it well with his goofiness which he got from dad. He was the one I turned to when things got rough when mom died.” Bradley said
“He sounds like a really good guy.” Nat said and Bradley nodded.
“He’s the best.” Leah added “The first time I met him he was a total gentleman even though he did try to flirt with me but Bradley warned me about that. He cares for the ones he loves and won’t take shit from anyone.” She said and everything they were saying was just making her fall in love with him more.
“He has chewed out many people because they either caused harm to us or to anyone that he cares about. He even chewed Maverick out when he tried to pull his application out and it was bad they’re relationship was and still is strained because of it.” Bradley said and Nat was shocked. He was going to tell Nat about Maverick pulling his papers but decided against it. When Ben found out Maverick pulled his papers he was about to call him and chew him out but Bradley stopped him.
“Did he end up going to the academy?” Shs asked and Bradley nodded.
“Yea after Maverick got chewed in front of Ice might I add. He withdrew the request to pull the papers.” Bradley said
“We talked about kids last night. He sounds like he would be a good dad.” Nat said, turning to look at his jet.
“He’s the best with kids. Always doing things for them and playing with them, I think it's because he’s a kid at heart.” Bradley said and that made Nat smile.
“Alright ladies and gentlemen! We are ready to start! I’m Lt. Justin Summers and will be telling you everything that is happening in this airshow. I’m excited for everyone to be here. We will be showing you a bunch of different jets, planes, and have a base attack simulation. We will be able to hear inside of the cockpits of some of our aviators.” Lt. Summers said and then a bunch of planes and jets were taking off and doing stunts but Leah, Bradley, and Nat had seen them before. They just wanted to see Ben fly and show off. “Alright ladies and gentlemen we have some time to do a simulation of a base attack, so at this time I want to warn you that there will be loud popping sounds and gunfire.” Lt. Summers said.
As he was talking the pilots had started to come out all in a line and they immediately picked out Ben because he was just like Goose. Each of them went to their jet and saluted their ground crew. Everyone saluted each other and the pilots and WSOs were getting into the jets. The pilots turned on the jets and it was a beautiful start up. Before everyone knew they were taxing and up in the air and flying.
The announcer began to talk as the siren came on and the base attack simulation began. It started with a jet releasing fake bombs making smoke. More smoke was seen from the ‘enemy’ fighters. “As the enemy takes fire on the base. Air support is called for the F-18 to come to assist.” There was the sound of 2 F-18s taking off and up into the air going after the ‘enemy’ “The friendly F-18s are flown by Captain Benjamin ‘Eagle’ Bradshaw and Lt. Luke ‘New York’ Townsend,” The announcer said and Bradley, Leah, and Nat smiled at hearing Ben’s name. “We will be able to hear inside of these two cockpits.” Lt. Summers said the base attack simulation went on and Ben had done several low flybys, especially where his brother, sister-in-law, and his future girlfriend. “Watch them go after the enemy fighter and engage in a dogfight.” Lt. Summers said
“Alright Eagle. Let’s go.” Luke said
“Let’s turn and burn.” Ben said and they were off and going after the ‘enemy’.
“On your six.” Luke said after a few moments and Ben did a move that impressed them and got behind them and toned them. The enemy flew off.
“One down, one to go. We got this.” Ben said and then they were tag teaming to take down the other jet and they did.
Their part was done and then the rest of it lasted a few more hours until Lt. Summers announced the end of the simulation and the end of the air show. Now they were allowed to go and meet the pilots after the jets had all landed.
They walked over to Ben and watched him while he talked with people and let some kids go and look up at the jet up and personal. He smiled when he saw them. "Hope you liked the show." Ben said and as he finished hugging them.
"We did." Leah said and Nat was just looking at him in his flight suit and falling deeper in love with him. They all talked until he had to tend to the other people and he said that they would met back at Bradley and Leah's house.
After a few hours Ben was pulling into the driveway and walking up to the house and walking in. "Honey, I'm home." He said.
"In the living room, my dear." Bradley responded and they both laughed. He walked in and saw that drinks were already served and food was on the table. Ben grabbed the beer that Bradley had held out to him. The rest of the evening was spent talking, eating and drinking. Once it reached 11 PM they went to bed but Ben stayed up and walked outside as Bradley and Leah retired to their room. Nat was about to go when he saw him outside and joined him.
"You were amazing." She said and he turned to look at her and smiled as he slung an arm around her shoulders and pulled her into him further.
"Why thank you. I love it." He said and she chuckled.
"I do too." She said and they stood there for a few minutes looking into each other eyes and slowly leaned and kissed. They pulled away when air was needed and then they just stood there for awhile until they ended up going back inside and up the stairs they ended up cuddling in bed until the next morning.
December 25, 2010
Morning came early and Natasha was waking up with a weight around her and she was confused until she turned and saw that it was Ben. He was sound to sleep and peaceful. He must've sensed her looking at him "Staring is rude." He said and opened his eyes reveling the blue she loved oh so much. "Come on. Better get up. We got presents to open." He said and she chuckled. They got up and walked downstairs to see Leah and Bradley already in the living room waiting.
"Good morning, lovebirds." Bradley said and Ben grabbed a pillow and threw it at his head which he ducked and it flew past him. Everyone chuckled.
"Sleep well?" Leah asked and they nodded. "Good now let's open presents." She said and Ben and Nat sat down by each other and the present opening begun. It took a few hours but all the presents were opened and it was now lunch.
"So, Nat you staying for New Years?" Bradley asked and she nodded.
"Ben is letting me stay at his place until then." She said and they smirked.
"Oh really now?" Bradley asked and Ben reached over and punched him in the arm.
"Yes really." Ben said as he took a bite of his sandwich that they had all agreed on for lunch.
"When are you going over there?" Leah asked loving how this was turning out.
"Once you get tired of us and kick us out." Ben joked and they rolled their eyes as Nat chuckled.
"We can never get tired of you both." Bradley said
"We'll leave here around 6 PM." Ben said and they nodded "Until then, you're stuck with us." He said and everyone laughed.
The rest of the afternoon and the evening was spent together and watching TV and trying out their gifts. Nat sat back thinking that she could get used to this and she really could. While the boys were out in the backyard paying with their gadgets the girls were left in the house. "So?" Leah started.
"So?" Nat asked looking at her.
"You and Ben." She said smirking with a knowing smirk.
"I think I'm in love." Nat said
"I knew it. He loves you too. I can tell." Leah said as they turned their attention back to the boys when a crash was heard. They watched the boys look at the two remote control jets on the ground with their hands on their hips. "Are we sure their pilots? They can't even fly remote control jets." Leah said and they both laughed, she shook her head and walked out.
"Boys, what did you do? Some pilots you are." She asked and then they started going on about what happened at the same time and it was hilarious. Nat shook her head.
"Yea, I'm in love." She said to herself and walked out to see if she could assist with anything.
